A VERY CRANBERRY CHRISTMAS

Back in November, I read one of our favorite seasonal books, CRANBERRY THANKSGIVING, to the kids and they baked the cranberry bread featured in the story. Well, now that it is Christmas, we have discovered another delightful seasonal book by the same authors, CRANBERRY CHRISTMAS. Now, this book has been around a few decades but for whatever reason, it took us this long to discover it.

Though we're a few years late in finding it for ourselves, it is sure to become an annual book tradition for us from here on out.

Speaking of traditions --- and cranberries --- I've already made one batch of one of our favorite Christmas foods for the hunky hubby's Christmas party and I'll be taking another batch to our church's covered dish fellowship tomorrow. The recipe is super-duper easy and super yum-o as well. How can you beat that?

Hope you like it as much as we do! Here goes:

CRANBERRY MEATBALLS

1 bag of frozen meatballs (origanal or Swedish...NOT Italian)
1 can of crushed pineapple
1 can of cranberry jelly (whole berry type or smooth)

In a skillet with just a tad of oil, brown the meatballs over medium heat til they are browned.

While they are cooking, put the pineapple and jelly in a crockpot and stir til mixed together. It is okay if there are lumps in the jelly, they will melt as it heats up.

When the meatballs are browned, add them to the crockpot and stir to coat. Cook on high or low heat til they are hot and starting to bubble. Turn to warm til ready to serve.

These taste great all by themselves but also can be served over rice. I often take the leftovers (if there ARE any, which is rare), chop them up, add a little water to make them saucier, and then serve them over rice.

May your Christmas be very Cranberry and if you do cook the meatballs, I'd love to hear how you liked them. Also, if you have any simple meatball recipes, share 'em. Who doesn't love a good meatball?

It sound a little bit like our family's recipe for "Good Chicken"! A can of cranberry sauce (I like to use the kind with the whole berries), 8 ounces of French dressing, and a packet of dry onion soup mix. Mix it all up and pour it over your chicken parts and cook the way you would normally cook it. Tastes pretty good for something so simple.

Hi, Elysa! I think I have the right person who once wrote kind words to me about my books in the Moosepath League Saga. I've been more or less off the publishing map for quite a while and it certainly has been quite a while since we last heard from Mister Walton and Company - a state of affairs I hope soon to remedy.

I've been trying to contact all the wonderful readers who were so kind and gracious to me during a challenging period in my writing life. I've actually published a new book under my own publishing imprint - The Moosepath Press. It's called The American Zig-Zag: Volume One (hope springs eternal). If all goes well, and it certainly has been so far, a new Moosepath Adventure will be next (it's probably about 70% written). The readers I have contacted have been universally wonderful in their response.

Anyway, please forgive my clogging up your blog with my own news. I did want to let you know about my latest venture because you had been so encouraging in the past. I'm also hoping to get hold of Barbara R., who likewise was very gracious. My new e-mail address is vanreid@tidewater.net and my wife has done a wonderful job refurbishing our website - http://moosepath.com/books/zz1.htm.

Thanks again for your past kindness and here's hoping you and yours are hosts to the Joys of the Season!

VAN! You definitely have the right person if you mean the person that absolutely loves the MOOSEPATH LEAGUE and all the books that chronicle their adventures!

It is so good to hear from you. I'd actually LOVE to feature your recipe as a blog post. I'm trying to do a recipe-and-author series here at GRACELAND. If you have the time, just write up the recipe for me...can be pretty basic...and then write up a bio about you and something about your books. It can be as long or short as you'd like it to be.

Books like yours are very, very rare and anything I can do to help promote them, I will do!

I'm going to check out your blog and, PLEASE, clog anytime you want!

BTW, Barb and her family are now serving as missionaries in an Asian island nation. She has limited access to hard copy books but bought herself a Kindle just before shipping out. I'll get her blog link to you.

Hope you and yours have a very, merry Christmas!
