HOMELESS NO MORE!
I am excited to announce that this Satuday, we will be helping a single mom, her five kids, and the disabled grandma move into their very own place. They have been homeless for a couple of years or more now. From shelter to shelter and hotel to other's houses has been the story of their life for far too long. This will be THEIR VERY OWN PLACE!
They are so excited. Can you imagine? They've been in one big hotel room for over two months now. They are getting their own place just before Christmas. It doesn't get much better than that!
Their first month's rent and deposit is being taken care of by Christian friends, but they own almost nothing as far as home furnishings are concerned. The grandmother has her bedroom furnishings in storage but they have little more than that.
I'm trying to help them get the furniture, bedding, cleaning supplies, dishes, pots and pans, etc. that they will need to start this new season in their life.
If you would like to donate items, new or used work! She is also registering at Wal-Mart if folks want to go that route. Or if you want to send gift cards to Wal-Mart, Dollar Gen'l, or Kroger, all three of those places are within two miles of where they will be living.
Also, if you'd like to be a part of the actual moving in process and live in our area, we'll be doing that this Saturday. We'll need two or three folks with trucks and big cars to go to their hotel and storage unit to load up their stuff and move it to their trailer. We also need someone who can go pick up some donated furniture for her in Richland and possibly at Gateway Rescue Mission thrift store in Pearl.
Items needed:
two bunk beds along with mattresses
chest of drawers or dressers (need to be small/narrow)
bedding for single beds
pillows
mattress covers for single beds
throw rugs/door mats
clothes hangers
arm chair
TV and DVD player (Christian videos for kids)
coffee table or end table
pots and pans
Baking dishes
kitchen towels and cloths
mixing bowls
crockpot
coffee maker
can opener
microwave
pizza pans
cookie sheets
cooking utensils
dishes (plates, bowls, etc.)
eating utensils
dish drainer
mixer
knives
cutting board
dish towels/sponges
Tupperware type containers
bathroom stuff such as toothbrush holder, soap dish, etc.
bath mat
bath towels
bath room cleaning supplies
toilet plunger
vacuum---regular
hand Held vac
mop
broom and dust pan
mop and bucket
small book shelf
trash cans (for bathroom, bedrooms, kitchen, outdoor)
couch (futon or fold-out would be great as this is where the mom will be sleeping)
decorative accessories such as framed art, wall crosses, mirrors, etc.
CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS!!! She has NOTHING! Toys and gifts for the children are being taken care of but nothing else so far.
Also, she will be riding a bike to the stores and work til she can get a car somewhere down the road (no pun intended). If anyone knows where she could get one of those bike trailers to haul groceries, etc. in, that would be awesome!
Her kids are girl age 11, boy age 9, girl age 8, girl age 5, and boy age 3.
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks so much!
