WISHING YOU A GROOVY NEW YEAR FROM....

...the "Pop Princess". That's my husband's new nickname for me because he says I'm light and happy just like the feel good, cheesy pop music I adore.

I do hope that all of you find 2008 to be your best year yet...filled with joyful laughter, new friendships, strengthened relationships, and an amazing awareness of God's incredible love for you.

BTW, this song talks about the end of 1989. Where were you back then? I was living in Swaziland, Africa as a single, big-haired journeyman missionary with the Southern Baptists. My husband was a "mature" college student and a green beret.

Leave me a comment telling where the end of 1989 found you and I'll enter you in a drawing for a prize. Don't know what it is yet, but it'll be good! More details to follow when the kids aren't clamoring for New Year's Eve FUN! :D

******************************

Its New Year's Day...the kids have been well fed and are quietly either playing, watching BALTO, doing chores, or laying on the floor near the toilet because of stomach virus...so now I can post more details.

OHH-H-H-HHHH!!!!!!!!!!! MY BABY JUST GOT SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't post more details now. Back later. UGH.....

******************************

Back again. Super Hubby and I just finished tag teaming it as we cleaned up the nasty results of the stomach bug and bathed the baby hobbit. Actually, we're leaving her in the tub for a good long while in case she gets sick again.

ANYWAY...enough nasty details. On to some fun contest details.

Leave a comment telling where you were and what you were doing the end of 1989. That will give you one entry into the drawing. THEN, if you post a link at your blog to this drawing, leave ANOTHER SEPARATE comment alerting me to that action and you'll get another entry. I'll need to limit the prize to folks living in the U.S. Sorry.

And the prize? One of the GRACE WORKS handcrafted bracelets that my friend Rhonda, my 2 oldest daughters, and I have been making to pay for our ministry trip to Swaziland. We've got several styles and colors so I'll let the winner pick the colors and design details. To see some of the ones we've made and sold in the past, you can follow this link: http://elysasmusingsfromgraceland.blogspot.com/2007/10/grace-works-giveaway.html

The contest will end 1/7/08 and I'll draw for the winner the next day.

Thanks for entering and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

New Year's Eve 1989, huh? Well, I'm sure I was at home, probably depressed after spending my first Christmas as a divorced, single-mom to an eleven year old son. Not a happy time. :(

I like my new and improved life now much better!

New Year's blessings to you!

RHONDA!!! And WHY don't you want some of my lovely jewelry?!?!? Oh yeah...probably because you made half of it and still have gazillions of beads abiding at your abode. ;)

And for whatever reason, your answer cRaCkEd me up and had me literally laughing out loud! :D

Maybe because I spelled "probation" wrong. Probabtion. What is THAT?

Here's a proxy entry for my pal Sandy. We've known each other since the 6th grade...can you believe that? And she still likes me enough to keep in touch! Amazing!

"At the end of '89 I was raising a 1 year old son and a 3 year old son alone living in a tiny apartment with no child support making $5.35 an hour. Then in early '90 I met my hubby now :) "

Here's another proxy vote. This time its for wonderfully sweet and grace-filled Leslie N from the FIAR boards:

"I was a newlywed. :-) Roger and I got married in Oct of that year and we spent Christmas with my family that year.

Looking forward to seeing what God has in store for this year. I know He will do amazing things! Can't wait to hear all that He is going to be teaching you.

Love you sweet friend,
Leslie"

Leslie's got a wonderfully inspiring blog that gives a glimpse into her terrific family's life. You'll be blessed by it! I promise!!!

Ahhhhh...in my freshman year of college and LOVING my life. Wow, those were low responsibility days, weren't they? How can I BUY a bracelet?

Totally cool contest! At the end of 1989, I was still in high school and had just finished applying for collages. My "long shot" was Stanford University ... and in a few months, I'd give my parents financial heart attacks by getting in!

Ooh, I'd love to win this!

You'll laugh. At the end of 1989 I was in the middle of my ((gulp)) 7th grade year! LOL That was the year of the big earthquake in California. That earthquake is my biggest memory from that year. I don't remember New Year's Eve honestly. I'm sure I was home listening to "the crazies" (as my Mom called them) shooting off their bottle rockets, just trying to stay awake until mid-night! LOL

My hubby on the other hand was in his first year of University! LOL

At the end of 1989, I was 23, my first baby had just celebrated her first Christmas and I had just stopped throwing up after 3 months of doing so as I was already pregnant with baby #2! Whew!

Over that New Year's and the surrounding weekend, The Oracle and I were invited to join a group of friends on a ski trip to Vermont. They rented a huge house, and there were easily 15-20 people staying there.

The Oracle's aunt lived all of fifteen minutes from Sugarbush ski resort, and we stopped at her house on the way. It was there that he first serioulsy mentioned marriage. We'd only been dating a bit over two months.

Stumbled over from another blog... lets see... 1989? ummm.... I was 15 and I do believe if I am remembering correctly I was getting kissed on New Years Eve for the first time by someone other than my parents! My first NYE kiss by a boyfriend! At a party at a friends house, outside by their fish pond. How romantic! And then all of his friends teased us for the next half hour til my mom got there to pick me up... yep. It was a nice one!

Through multiple links on various blogs I stumbled upon your blog...you have a great blog.

New Years Eve 1989...I was 15, so I was either reading a book (yes, I was a nerd) or I was participating in a church lock-in party...I can't really remember, but the lock in sounds like it would have been during that time period.

New Year's Eve 1989, let's see. I was celebrating my 10th birthday (man, was I really only that old?).

I was probably wearing a pair of stirrup pants, a turtleneck with a big baggy crocheted sweater over it, and I'm betting that my hair was in one of those complete side ponytails.

And having to travel back in time to that moment makes me want to curl up in a fetal position for days while "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" plays over and over in the background.

Heading over to my blog to link you up in a moment, I shall return! I found you through KellyJean.

Hope you get the funding for your trip!

I lurk here. But a contest has me decloaking. In 1989, I was in my freshman year of high school and in love with Ed Hohulin who played trumpet (first chair) in the high school band. He was a senior. He was going to play at a senior citizen home and asked me to sing with a band of senior citizens on New Year's Eve. I said yes. Then he decided to do something else that night and I entertained with the old folks at the old folks' home. And the band called me every year for the next four years, so every New Year's Eve until my sophomore year of college, I sang there. Ed never played with us again.
