PIG OUT on GOOD BOOKS...

... in this case, books that feature those oinkiest of animals.

Isn't this feller just adorable? I snapped his photo, as well as the one of his porcine companions below, on our latest trip to Swaziland while visiting the Teen Challenge Farm outside of Mbabane.

There is just something about pigs that lend themselves to cuteness and making fine, featured, book characters. In fact, some of our family's favorite stories are about these squealers:

  • CHARLOTTES WEB --- E.B. White
  • TOOT AND PUDDLE --- Holly Hobbie
  • PIPPIN THE CHRISTMAS PIG --- Jean Little
  • MRS. POTTER'S PIG --- Phyllis Root
  • PIGGIES --- Don Wood
  • THE THREE LITTLE PIGS --- Steven Kellogg
  • IF YOU GIVE A PIG A PANCAKE --- Laura Joffe
  • MERCY WATSON TO THE RESCUE --- Kate DiCamillo
  • PIGSTY --- Mark Teague
  • THE THREE LITTLE JAVELINAS --- Susan Lowell
  • TEA FOR ME, TEA FOR YOU --- Laura Rader
  • HOW KIND! --- Mary Murphy
  • WAIT! NO PAINT! --- Bruce Whatley
  • THE TRUE STORY OF THE THREE LITTLE PIGS --- Lane Smith
  • A CRASH COURSE FOR MOLLY --- Eva Eriksson
  • PRESTON'S GOAL! --- Colin McNaughton
  • OOPS! --- Colin McNaughton
  • The ELEPHANT AND PIGGIE series --- Mo Willems
So what pig books never "boar" you or yours?

C'mon, let us know. Don't hog them all for yourself!

What? Tired of all the corny puns?

Okay, okay...I'll quit.

When pigs fly!
