A TREASURE TROVE OF NEW BOOK IDEAS

I honestly don't even remember how I found out about this book, but somehow or other I did and I requested it from our library sytem. It came in this week and what a treasure! "The Pulpwood Queens' Tiara Wearing, Book Sharing Guide to Life" by Kathy L. Patrick is packed full to overflowing with not only her personal story of how she went from being a shy, Tomboy living in Kansas to being the bold owner of THE BEAUTY AND THE BOOK and the eventual founder of the now famous PULPWOOD QUEENS, a far-from-stuffy book club. Along the way of telling her story, she includes lessons she's learned about life, great quotes, and lots and lots of booklists.

Some of the books on her lists are old favorites of mine but most of them are brand new. I've already started searching out my library's online catalog and have enough book recommendations now to last me at least a year! Really. The lists are that good.

I'm so thankful for whatever led me to this pink and leopardy-printed book. Sometimes those unexpected discoveries are the best!
I'll leave you with this quote found within the book's pages:

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The
more that you learn, the more places you'll go." --- Dr. Seuss

I honestly do not know how you manage to read all of the books you do along with all of the things you do! You must read at the speed of light!

Well, I love discovering your web blog just about as much as I love Elvis. I make a bee line to Graceland every time I am in Memphis and thank you for saying such kind words about my "little book that could".
Yes, I am on a mission to get people reading but in a really fun way. Nothing would THRILL ME MORE than a chapter in Memphis.
Screaming ROAD TRIP! I would love to crown YOU QUEEN of The Pulpwood Queens of GRACELAND!

CB: I'm actually not a fast reader at all. In fact, I tend to take it easy because I usually don't want those good books to be over too soon! It's just that I hardly ever watch television. Sunday night video with the family and that's usually it...maybe one or two other movies through out a whole month. So instead of tv, I read. And instead of cleaning and organizing my house, I read. Or get on the pc.;D

Kathy: It was such a nice surprise to have you drop by Graceland for a visit. I wish I could say that if you roadtripped to crown me that you'd be in Memphis, but alas, no. I actually live a few hours south of there in Mississippi. My blog's title does allude to Elvis' home...after all, I'm a Mississippi girl who grew up on Elvis stories. My daddy even had a personal encounter with him in a bar on the Mississippi Gulf Coast just before Elvis hit it big. They bumped shoulders passing each other as macho, hot shot guys were apt to do then and now. Elvis was dating a local girl my dad knew. So the Graceland name is a nod to that tie to my Southern roots, but even more than that, it's there for spiritual reasons.

Several years ago, I had one of those "ah ha" experiences where I really got God's grace and the whole concept of unmerited favor for the first time in my life. Before that, I had been a pretty uptight, legalistic, grit-your-teeth-and-fake-it Christian. I was all about MY goodness and just did not get that it was about HIS goodness. After I woke up to the harsh reality that I was actually pretty rotten but He loved me anyway, my life was transformed! So much so that I even gave my 3rd daughter the middle name Grace.

So when I was looking for a name for my blog, Graceland just fit. And now I often refer to our little farm as Graceland because truly we are here only because of HIS love.

So if you ever make it to visit the Sweet Potato Queens, I'm just in their backyard and would absolutely LOVE to meet you.
