WILL BABYSIT FOR FOOD...

...if that food is Meche's Donut King KING CAKE!

That's right! This amazing pastry is worth working for.

Actually, it was a serendipitous treat. This past Friday evening, a friend called me from Lafayette, Louisiana, where she was taking care of family and asked if we could babysit her three boys. Her husband had to take their daughter to the ER due to a broken arm. I said "yes" and her three kids then spent the rest of the evening hanging out with our kids.

Fast forward to last night. Said friend shows up a little after eight with a big ole box she'd brought with her from Louisiana. It was a Meche's King Cake. Now, I knew right away that something was different about this King Cake. Even though it was wrapped up in plastic to keep it fresh, I could smell the sweetness of it and when I touched it, the pastry was actually soft.

I enforced discipline and made us all wait til breakfast to indulge. And then, to the delight of the kids and parents alike, we broke our nightly fast with that delicious-as-it-smelled-and-looked King Cake. The cake we were truly blessed with was a half cream cheese and half chocolate one.

Now we know personally why Meche's King Cake was voted as "The Best King Cake" in Acadiana as the box proclaims. Those people know good when they taste it!

And thanks, Andi. We didn't babysit because we expected a reward, but we sure aren't complaining about this unexpected treat.

By the way, while snooping around the internet, I found out that you can actually order a Meche's king cake and have it shipped to your own little bit of Acadia away from Acadia. Here's the link: http://mecheskingcakes.3dcartstores.com/
